Final Fantasy VIII - Obel Lake Quest

(Mr. Monkey had a rock like this I think...)

The first rock can be obtained by first interacting with the lake and choosing "Throw a rock", you want the message to say "The rock skipped many, many times."

Once you have had this message (May take a number of goes), head back to the Dollet forest and find Mr. Monkey. Throw a rock at him until he throws one back at you. This is the first rock and has the letters "U R H A E O".

(You'll find something on an island east of Timber, too.)

The next rock can be found on a small island east of Timber, near the bridge to Fisherman's Horizon, called Mandy Beach.

Land the Ragnarok here and walk around tapping [Confirm] to find the rock

This rock has the letters "R E A I D R"

(At the beach in Balam, something special washes ashore at times.)

This rock can be found on the Balamb island shore; but there are a lot of rocks here.

Search along the shore line until you find the one with the letters "S T S L R M"

(There's also something on top of a mountain with a lake and cavern.)

The last rock can be found on top of a mountain to the north west of Timber called Monterosa Plateau.

Search around until you find a "Bird warming an egg", choose to "Check it out" and defeat the enemies. There is a rock here with the letters "E A S N P D"

Once you have all 4 rocks, head back to Obel Lake and speak to the creature again. All 4 sets of letters will be shown:

If you read this from top to bottom, right to left you will get: "Mordred Plains Has Treasure".

Head to Mordred Plains, north of Esthar where you will find a small area with coloured rocks. Each coloured rock has a quirk:

• Blue will tell you what the various aspects of the rocks are.
• Black will repeat the same thing.
• White will talk nonsense.
• Red says the opposite of what it means.

Find the Red rocks but do the opposite of what they say; if they say east, go west.

When the red rock says "The treasure is not here" you have found it, search again to find Three Stars.

There is one more item to find and some interesting places (Hidden Draw Points).

"Take some time off at Eldbeak Peninsula".

This is a small peninsula on the Trabia continent, north of Balamb Town. Head there and examine the very tip of the peninsula to find a stone pillar with a clue: "TRETIMEASUREATMINOFFDEISLE".

This clue combines both the clue from the creature and this one. The original clue says "Take some time off at Eldbeak Peninsula", if you remove TIME OFF from the new clue you get "TREASUREATMINDEISLE" or "TREASURE AT MINDE ISLE".

This is a small island south-west of Esthar (North of the eastern most part of Centra Continent), search the island to find a Luck-J Scroll.

"Back in the day, south of here, there used to be a small but beautiful village surrounded by deep forests. Everyone lived a happy life there."

This clue only leads to a small area surrounded by forests to the east of Edea's House. Upon finding it, Squall will mention the rubble but that is all there is here.

"Take a break at the railroad bridge"

This refers to the small railroad bridges where you can find Hidden Draw Points. Check the bridges for spells like Fire, Aero and Break.
